Creating a More Resilient Future

Bringing relief, recovery, and forward-thinking  solutions to disaster-affected communities in the The Bahamas.

We are

the Disaster Reconstruction Authority (DRA). That’s a complicated-sounding name, but our mission is simple: to help restore Bahamian communities devastated by natural disasters.

Help Dorian survivors struggling with homelessness.

Many people in Abaco and Grand Bahama are still struggling with homelessness that you can help them.

HARP
Can
Help.

HARP is here to help! The DRA has reimagined its small home repairs initiative and created HARP – a Homeowner Assistance and Relief Program with the singular focus of getting displaced residents of Abaco and Grand Bahama back into their homes.

  • HARP IS HERE FOR YOU.

Was your home badly damaged in a disaster event? Are you worried because you don’t have the resources to repair your home? HARP can help. Through HARP we help eligible homeowners whose houses have been made unlivable by a disaster.

  • Are you eligible for HARP?

How
We
Help
.

Large-scale natural disasters shatter communities. Our goal is to make them whole again. We  move quickly to restore normalcy and minimize trauma. Because, once normalcy is restored, healing can begin.

  • Uniquely Positioned to Respond

The DRA begins its response work immediately after the Prime Minister designates a disaster zone. One of the guiding principles of disaster management and reconstruction is that reconstruction begins the day of the disaster. We take that principle seriously. We quickly mobilize and begin working with government, agencies, relevant ministries, and NGOs to meet the immediate needs of disaster-affected communities.

  • Building Back Better

Our approach to disaster recovery and reconstruction is based on the internationally accepted Build Back Better (BBB) framework. Using the Build Back Better process helps us make communities stronger after a disaster. Because our goal isn’t to just rebuild what was damaged and return the community to the way it was before. We go beyond that. We use the disaster recovery and reconstruction process as an opportunity to improve conditions, make the community stronger and create a more resilient future.

Empowered by Government.

The Bahamas government created the DRA in the aftermath of Hurricane Dorian, the most devastating natural disaster the country has experienced. Essentially, it created a government sponsored-nonprofit organization, a unique authority that has the support of the government but independently carries out its mission to bring relief and recovery to communities devastated by a disaster.

Meet the officials that empower the DRA.

Guided by
Experts.

The DRA is headed by a diverse board of directors and a seasoned executive management team.  Together, they guide the authority, providing critical oversight to help the organization achieve its mission.

Meet our leadership.
