Alex entered frontline politics in 2009 after being elected unopposed as the Deputy Chairman of the Progressive Liberal Party and held the post until November of 2017 when he was made Deputy Chair Emeritus. In 2012 he was nominated as the party’s candidate for the Long Island seat. This was the first time the PLP contested the seat in 15 years and despite a spirited run, he was unsuccessful in claiming the seat. This led to him being appointed as a member of the Senate of the Bahamas by Prime Minister Perry G. Christie on May 21st 2012, serving until Parliament was dissolved in 2017. In July of 2012 he was appointed Chairman of The Bahamas Mortgage Corporation where he served until June of 2017. He currently serves as the Chairman of the Disaster Reconstruction Authority and is tasked with leading the Government’s rebuilding effort in the current declared disaster zones of Abaco and Grand Bahama.

He is married to Nadia nee Martin, and they are the proud parents of three children, Alexandra,
